ABOUT US

CHARM, Inc was founded in 2000 Emma (E.J.) Brown, PhD, APRN-BC, FAAN. The founding board members were E.J. Brown (President), Angela Chelette Secretary-Treasurer), O.J. Lake, Joelle Simon, and Elmira Warren. The current Board members are Olivia T. Scott (President), Mary Angelique Hill, DNP (Vice President), Mattie Jones, MSN, ARNP, CNAA, BC (Secretary-Treasurer).  Past board members have included Marlon Ivey, President and Margaret Francis, Director.

 

CHARM’s office is located in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida.  The focus of the organization is on cancer, cardiovascular diseases, HIV infection, drug use and teen pregnancy through educational prevention programs and community outreach.  Currently the target population consisted of African Americans 95%, Hispanics 5%, and Whites 2%.  Its major sources of cancer prevention funding have been the Federal Office of Minority Health, Florida Department of Health (FDOH), and American Cancer Society (ACS). The sources of HIV funding have the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, and the Florida Department of Health.  Cardio-vascular disease funding has been the Florida Department of Health. CHARM’s service area consists of the ten rural counties of Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union and the rural areas within the Alachua County.
